A common theme amongst dog themed races such as our own is the opportunity for runners to meet or even adopt pets from local humane societies. Take the Paws & Claws Run/Walk in Hopkinton, Massachusetts for example. The event is aimed at promoting the Baypath Humane Society and has experienced great success. Last year the 500 participants raised nearly $22,000 and resulted in many of the animal residents finding a permanent home. Another great example is the My Dogs are Barking 5K Road Race in Bedford, New Hampshire. They share a similar goal of finding homes for shelter animals and raising money and overall awareness of the subject. This common theme amongst the community of dog 5K’s is a trend we are excited to continue!
